PROJECT ENGINEER I/II (P-7/P-9) – Requires a bachelor’s degree, master’s preferred, in Health Physics/Radiological Science or a closely related field of study, plus a minimum of seven years’ experience in radiological controls and radiological emergency response. Professional certification in NRRPT or CHP desirable. Comprehensive knowledge, skills and experience in a broad radiological science, radiation detection, and health physics instrumentation field. Five years’ training experience in a technical field (radiation sciences) geared toward multi-discipline learners. Minimum of two years’ active experience as a team member in the DOE Radiological Assistance Program (RAP), or other emergency response organization team with a CBRN hazardous materials background required. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required. Responsibilities include maintaining the DOE Region 1 Radiological Assistance Program (RAP1), a training and outreach program. Ensures that RAP1 team members are trained and qualified to perform radiological detection, identification, and analysis missions safely and effectively. Will work closely with the RAP1 team and emergency response units from local, state and federal agencies and interact with DOEHQ and other DOE sites across the complex. Will develop and present training programs for the RAP team in accordance with DOE NNSA training standards as well as design, plan, and execute multi-agency proficiency exercises and drills. Will direct team members during deployments, develop technical procedures and statements of work, maintain a national database records of personnel readiness records, provide training and outreach support to RAP teams and other federal, state, and local agencies. Will prepare budget plans for purchasing and training, and conduct annual training readiness assessment. Requires a considerable amount of travel, including afterhours work. Ability to obtain and maintain a “Q” security clearance a must. Will be placed at the P-7 or P-9 level dependent upon years of experience and depth and breadth of relevant knowledge and skills. TECHNICAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE (T-6) - Requires an Associate’s Degree in an applicable electronics or electrical engineering field of study, and a minimum of ten years of electronics experience in operation, calibration and repair of detection and health physics instrumentation, including a minimum of five years of active experience with DOE Radiological Assistance Program (RAP) or other comparable emergency response organization team with a CBRN hazardous materials background. Must demonstrate comprehensive knowledge, skills and experience in a broad radiation detection and health physics instrumentation field. Excellent communications (oral and written) and proven interpersonal skills are required as the candidate will work closely with RAP team and emergency response units from local, state and federal agencies, and will be required to prepare and deliver presentations. Responsible for the maintenance of the DOE Region 1 Radiological Assistance Program (RAP) instrumentation program. Will have the responsibility to plan, manage, and coordinate work scope, direct team equipment strategy during deployments, and supervise the equipment calibration and repair work as done by others for the program. Requires the individual to ensure that instrumentation is calibrated and maintained in a constant state of readiness for deployment. Serves as a delegate for the contractor program operations manager. Requires a considerable amount of travel, including after-hours work, as a member of an emergency response team, interacting with first responder organizations during deployments and exercises; attending and presenting training; and participation in working groups. Ability to obtain and maintain a “Q” security clearance is a must. Professional certification in NRRPT is desirable. Nonproliferation & National Security.

PROJECT ENGINEER I/EQUIPMENT MANAGER (P-9) – Requires a bachelor’s degree in an applicable engineering or scientific field plus a minimum of ten years’ electronics experience with radiological instrumentation and three years with the Radiological Assistance Program (RAP) or other radiological emergency response organization. Professional certification in Health Physics or NRRPT is desirable. Comprehensive knowledge, skills and experience in a broad radiological detection instrumentation field are required, as are excellent communication and interpersonal skills; PowerPoint experience preferred. In addition, requires a considerable amount of travel, including after-hours work and the ability to obtain and maintain a “Q” security clearance. Responsibilities include working closely with RAP team and emergency response units from local, state and federal agencies, maintaining records of asset readiness; being a qualified member and active participant of the RAP team; giving presentations and overseeing the DOE Region I RAP instrumentation program; ensuring that instrumentation is calibrated and maintained in a constant state of readiness for deployment; ensuring equipment inventories meet the technical needs of the program; evaluating current commercially available radiation technologies for application to the mission; providing equipment training; providing field maintenance; preparing budget requests; and conducting annual equipment assessment.
